Both certify your Spanish. They're built for different purposes — here's how to choose.
The DELE and SIELE are the two main official Spanish exams, both backed by the Instituto Cervantes. They test the same language but work very differently. Pick based on what you need the certificate for.
| DELE | SIELE | |
|---|---|---|
| Result type | Pass/fail at a fixed level (A1–C2) | A score (0–1000) mapped to a CEFR level |
| Validity | Permanent (lifelong) | Valid for 5 years |
| Format | Paper-based, fixed dates | Computer-based, flexible dates |
| Results | Weeks to months | Around 3 weeks |
| Choose skills? | No — full level exam | Yes — full (Global) or individual skills |
Because both exams test the same CEFR skills, preparation overlaps heavily. Practising DELE task types builds the reading, listening, writing, and speaking ability you need for either exam.
